Bio
I most recently served as an Environmental Specialist with the NC Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) Water Sciences Section, where I worked on a variety of wetland related projects for DEQ for 18 years. The wide range of projects I led included establishment of the North Carolina Wetland Program Plan and its stakeholder group, co-creation of the ncwetlands.org website, review of proposed state and federal stream and wetland regulations, summation of state-permitted stream and wetland impacts/mitigation, organization of North Carolina stream and wetland training classes, coordination of North Carolina’s participation in the EPA’s National Wetland Condition Assessment, and coordination and participation in various wetland research projects. I received a masters from the Department of Resource Management and Policy at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and a bachelor’s in Biology from the College of William and Mary.
SHORT DESCRIPTION OF INTERESTS:
My background and experience is in freshwater and saltwater wetlands and the ecosystem services they can provide in Virginia and North Carolina. I have done a lot of work with stream and wetland regulations on the state and national level. Grant writing and drafting and reviewing documents related to environmental topics/issues have been a major component of my career.
